How to Use the 3-Tier Quran Memorization Method Successfully
For centuries, traditional Islamic Madaris have utilized the three-tier daily recitation cycle to ensure students don't just memorize new Ayahs, but retain previously memorized portions with unwavering strength. Here is how to configure your daily routine using this template:
Today's New Lesson
The student memorizes 5 to 15 lines daily. They must recite this to the teacher with zero hesitations and 100% accurate Tajweed before receiving the next day's Sabaq.
Recent Juz Revision
The student recites the last 3–5 pages of their current Juz immediately prior to today's Sabaq. This cements new memorization from short-term memory into intermediate memory.
Long-term Retention
The student recites 1/4th to 1 full Juz of older completed portions every single day on a rotating cycle. This guarantees no Surah is ever forgotten.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about tracking Quran recitation and Hifz progress.
What is the difference between Sabaq, Sabqi, and Manzil in this template?
This template follows the classical 3-tier Quran memorization methodology: Sabaq is the new lesson assigned for today (e.g. 5–10 lines or 1 page); Sabqi (or Amukhta) is the recent revision of the current Juz (typically the last 3–5 pages memorized); and Manzil (or Dhor) is the cumulative revision of older completed Juz to guarantee long-term retention.
Is this Hifz spreadsheet compatible with Google Sheets?
Yes, 100%. You can download the .xlsx file and upload it directly to Google Drive or Google Sheets. All cell formulas (=COUNTIF), freeze panes, and conditional formatting rules work seamlessly without any loss of functionality.
Can I print this Hifz tracker as a physical paper log for my Halaqah?
Absolutely. The sheets are pre-formatted for standard letter and A4 portrait printing. You can print out the blank Daily Recitation Log rows and distribute them to students or place them in a physical Madrasah teacher binder.
How does the automated 30 Juz milestone tracker work?
The 30 Juz checklist sheet includes built-in Excel formulas that calculate your student's total completed Juz count and overall completion percentage automatically whenever a Juz status is set to 'Completed'.
Why should a Madrasah upgrade from spreadsheets to MadrasahSync?
While spreadsheets work for 5–10 students, managing 30 to 100+ students across multiple Halaqahs becomes chaotic. MadrasahSync lets teachers log Sabaq, Sabqi, and Manzil in under 10 seconds per student on mobile, sends automatic WhatsApp progress updates to parents, and generates one-click quarterly report cards.
Log Quran Lessons in 10 Seconds • Keep Parents Fully In Sync
Spreadsheets require manual typing after every lesson. With MadrasahSync, Ustadhs tap a student's name, pick Surah and Ayah with one touch, and log Sabaq, Sabqi, and Manzil in under 10 seconds. Parents receive instant WhatsApp and mobile push notifications with homework reminders and quarterly milestone certificates.
